Buying Local and Carbon Footprints

Buying local is often discussed as a way to lower your carbon footprint. The simplicity is misleading. The carbon footprint of different products and foods depends on all kinds variables and assumptions, and there is no reason to assume that because something was grown or produced locally it inherently has a lower carbon footprint.
